The deal estimates Mercedes at £4.6 billion – a record for a Formula 1 squad – following the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5bn in an adjustment to ownership structure last September. The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding in the region of five percent. The 53-year-old would stay on as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed. Ownership Structure Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and chemicals giant Ineos, who each also own a third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson said: "We are providing no official statement on this. The management structure of the team will remain unchanged, and each shareholder are fully committed to continued achievements of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One." Valuation Increase This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos Group acquired its share for £208m in 2022. This surge reflects the growth in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally. This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which was released in summer 2023 and earned over $630m (£458m) at the box office. It is the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports movie to date. Present Performance Mercedes are second in the team standings, trailing McLaren, with three races left this season. Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 races so far and is fourth in the drivers' championship behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. Mercedes secured a record eight straight constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, between 2014 and 2021.
